London, July 15 (ANI): England coach Andy Flower believes that even if Kevin Pietersen offers to retract his retirement from all limited overs, the England Cricket Board (ECB) may not budge.
Pietersen came off the field at Guildford on Friday, having made an unbeaten 234 for Surrey against Lancashire, and said he still wanted to play in the World Twenty20.
He also announced that he was prepared to make himself available again for England in one-day cricket and wanted to play in all forms of the international game for 'three or four more years'.
After having talks with the ECB over a possible compromise solution, Pietersen also insisted, however, that he would return to England's coloured clothing only on condition that he was given special treatment as to when and how much he played.
But Flower claimed that as things stand, there was no way back in for KP.
"The situation is the same as it was when he first approached us. The ECB are determined to protect all three formats of the game and part of that is not setting a precedent of allowing players to retire from one-day cricket alone," the Daily Mail quoted Flower, as saying.
"As things stand at the moment, no, there isn't," he added.
Flower insisted that essentially, Pietersen's position and that of the ECB remain unchanged and there are wider issues at stake.
"I think it's sad for a player in his batting prime not to be playing all forms of international cricket, something that a lot of the guys work very hard for but are also very lucky to have the opportunity to do," he said. (ANI)
