Apple admits 'mistake', rejoins EPEAT green registry

Washington, July 14 (ANI): US-based tech giant Apple has rejoined the environmental standards group for electronics products a week after quitting the programme.

Last month Apple quietly ended its participation with Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, (EPEAT), the programme designed to identify which electronic devices pose the least risk to the environment.

But the firm published a letter on its site, saying it had realised the move had been 'a mistake' after many of its customers had complained.

The u-turn follows an announcement by San Francisco city officials that they planned to ban local agencies from buying Apple Mac computers, the BBC reports.

According to the report, a letter published on Apple's site by its senior vice president of hardware engineering said the move to quit the registry had been an error.

"We've recently heard from many loyal Apple customers who were disappointed to learn that we had removed our products from the EPEAT rating system," Bob Mansfield wrote.

"I recognise that this was a mistake. Starting today, all eligible Apple products are back on EPEAT," he added. (ANI)
