Imphal, July 13 (ANI): Frequent shutdowns, bomb attacks and acts of violence have affected normal life across the state, so much so, that education is one of the worst hit areas.
Every year, since 2008, students have protested against these interruptions by various militant organisations.
Recently, students and teachers of different schools in Imphal observed 'Demand Day' n their quest for disturbance-free education in the state.
The event was organized by the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur at Centenary Hall of Manipur University in Canchipur.
Speaking to mediapersons, students unanimously demanded disturbance-free education.
"We face many problems during general strikes, shutdowns, and economic blockades, and we can't study properly. We want disturbance-free education to study peacefully," Subhash, a student, said.
A public meeting was organized in Manipur University, where experts noted that militant outfits posed a serious threat to the education sector, as they extort money from educational institutions.
Teachers said militants must leave the education sector out of their clutches. ushil Elangbam, a teacher said, "We are not able to complete the syllabus in time due to various bandhs, strikes, blockades and other problems. Militants should never create trouble in the education."
In 2005-06, Manipur witnessed 48 days of shutdown and 97 days of economic blockade, forcing schools to shut down for over three months. (ANI)
