Chandigarh, July 13 (IANS) Terming incidents of molestation of women and children "condemnable", union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said here Friday that he will ask the Assam chief minister what action he is to take on the incident of molestation and stripping of a teenaged girl in Guwahati.
Answering a query at a press conference on what the government planned to do, Chidambaram said he will find out about the incident from Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and "I will ask the chief minister what action he will take".
Four of the 11 men who molested and stripped the teenage girl outside a pub in Guwahati city four days ago have been arrested, police in that city said Friday. The 11 men have been identified and efforts are on to trace the remaining men involved in the crime Monday night, the official said.
The group molested and stripped the girl after she came out with her fiends from a restaurant-cum-bar Monday night. Although she cried for help, no one initially came forward to help.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has expressed concern over the incident and said that a separate task force would be set up to deal with such crimes against women in Guwahati and other places in the state.
To a query that the police chief of Guwahati had made light of the incident, Chidambaram said if the police official had indeed done so, then he condemned it. "Nobody should make light of molesting a woman or a child."
