Kusum Ansal foundation awards new Hindi, Tamil authors

New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) Writers Usha Kiran Khan and K. Vittal Rao will be honoured with the Kusumanjali Sahitya Samman for their literary works, "Sirjanhaar" and "Vaazvin Sila Unnathangkal", a statement by the Kusumanjali Foundation founded by noted Hindi writer Kusum Ansal said.

The writers will be awarded Aug 1 at the India International Centre in the capital.

The awards carry a purse of Rs.2,50,000, a citation and souvenirs.

The foundation was set up in 2011 to promote literary, artistic and cultural acivities. The foundation said the two works "considered for the awards may be in any genre including biography, drama, fiction and poetry in Hindi and in any of the other regional languages."

The regional language chosen for 2012 was Tamil.

The foundation had received 183 entries in Hindi and 89 entries in Tamil.

The advisory committees for Hindi and Tamil shortlisted seven and six works respectively and sent to the selection committees.

The selection committee for Hindi awards was led by author Alok Mehta and for the Tamil section by Sa Kandaswamy, the foundation said.
