Washington, July 11 (ANI): American tycoon Donald Trump has opened his controversial 100 pound golf course in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
According to The Guardian, the opening of the golf course was mired in controversy over Trump's decision to bulldoze fairways over protected sand dunes, besides outrage over his treatment of neighbours.
"We're having a great time, the course is playing great," the man known as "The Donald" said.
Trump flew to Aberdeen on a private jet emblazoned in gold with the Trump brand.
Trump teed off with Colin Montgomerie, the former Ryder Cup captain, who had turned out in spite of pressure from the Scottish Wildlife Trust for him to boycott the holes considered most damaging to the dune system.
Trump claims to have stabilized the land to create the "greatest golf course in the world".
David Milne, a neighbour who has led campaigns against the project, said the site of special scientific interest (SSSI) should be renamed an SEED - a site of extreme environmental destruction.
The Golf Environment Organisation, which vets courses and is backed by the European Tour, complained of the course's "considerable negative impact on what was one of the UK's most valuable mobile sand dune systems". (ANI)
