London, July 11(ANI): Bolton based boxer Amir Khan has been turned into a lean and mean organic vegetarian-eating machine by his new nutritionist, Ruben Tabares, ahead of Friday's weigh-in for his championship bout against WBC Light welterweight champion Danny Garcia.
Khan said he hasn't eaten curry for the past ten weeks in a bid to stay fighting fit for his championship showdown with Garcia.
Khan said he has never felt better before, as Tabares replaced Alex Ariza in the former WBA and IBF champion's kitchen.
Khan said his weight is already down to 146 pounds, which is just six pounds above the 140-pound light welterweight limit.
Previously, Khan had weighed as much as 152 pounds the night before the weigh-in and has had to drink up to 30 liters of water to flush out his system and lose weight.
Khan's coach Freddie Roach claims he can feel the difference, and added Khan is hitting harder than ever.
"I'm eating a lot of vegetables, salads, organic food and fresh juices. There's no fried food, nothing fattening and I haven't had a curry for 10 weeks," The Daily Mail quoted Khan, as saying.
"I'd never really thought about diet and nutrition before and I definitely feel a lot fitter, a lot fresher and a lot stronger. I'm beating my old times in training. I know I'm better all round and it's down to my diet," he added. (ANI)
