Kolkata, July 9 (ANI): UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee is meeting MPs and MLAs of CPM and Forward Bloc here on Monday to seek their support for the July 19 presidential election.
Mukherjee had earlier on Sunday said that two parties of the Left Front - Communist Party of India-Marxist and the Forward Bloc had offered their support to him, and that he would be meeting their leaders to thank them.
"The Communist Party of India-Marxist and the Forward Bloc of the Left front have also supported my candidature," he said.
Mukherjee further said that he had so far toured almost 14 to 15 states of the country to seek support for his candidature.
"As the UPA candidate for the President's post, I have been to various states, and many political parties have offered me their support. I have held discussions with the lawmakers and legislators of various states. I have toured almost 14 to 15 states in this regard," he said.
Mukherjee is pitted against former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma, who is supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the AIADMK.
The presidential elections will be held on July 19. The vote count will take place on July 22.
