Washington, July 8 (ANI): Team USA's Olympic Women's soccer star Megan Rapinoe has revealed that she's "gay".
The 27-year-old midfielder from Redding, California, explained that she had not been hiding her sexuality, but was never directly asked by reporters about her sexual preference.
"I feel like sports in general are still homophobic, in the sense that not a lot of people are out . . . I feel everyone is really craving [for] people to come out," Us magazine quoted her as telling Out Magazine.
"People want-they need-to see that there are people like me playing soccer for the good ol' U.S. of A," she said.
In a recent interview, Rapinoe spoke about her long-distance relationship with girlfriend Sarah Walsh, whom she described as "an athlete" who lives in Australia. "She's great!"
Rapinoe has been dating the Australian soccer player for three years. (ANI)
