Veteran Kashmiri journalist dies after prolonged illness

New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) S.D. Rohmetra, a veteran journalist from Jammu and Kashmir, died Thursday in the national capital after a prolonged illness.

Rohmetra, 73, is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.

The end came early Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he was undergoing treatment for throat cancer for the past few years. He was referred to the hospital last week after his condition deteriorated, a family member said.

Rohmetra was the owner and editor-in-chief of 'Daily Excelsior', one of the largest circulated English dailies in Kashmir. The newspaper was launched in January 1965.

The journalist fraternity in Jammu got together to offer condolences on the death of Rohmetra, whose cremation will take place in the city Thursday evening.
