London, July 4 (ANI): Denim jeans have overtaken feats of engineering commodities like the space shuttle and car, to win the title of the best American export.
Just 14 percent of Brits are impressed by the space shuttle and Ford's first commercial cars but a remarkable 42 percent are smitten with jeans.
But younger generations, aged 25 to 34, prefer Facebook and the iPhone and are inspired by pop singer Beyonce Knowles.
According to the poll of 3,000 people by Californian winemaker Beringer, almost half of women, 46 percent, named jeans as the best US invention to cross the Atlantic, the Daily Star reported.
And the vacuum cleaner was the second most popular import among females, with many saying that it had made their life easier.
But, four in ten men preferred the TV remote control, placing jeans second and wireless internet third.
Those aged above 55 said that their lives had been most influenced by the electric lightbulb and microwave oven and saw Hillary Clinton, 64, as the best role model.
Spandex, Tupperware, the credit card and Post-it Note also featured in the list.
"There is a lot of disagreement over which are the best products to have made their way to the UK," a Beringer boss said.
"Twenty-something Brits value technology that lets them stay in touch with their friends.
"But older generations have opted for items that make day-to-day living and chores easier," the boss added.
Television presenter Dawn Porter, 33, who has lived and worked on both sides of the Atlantic, has noticed a growing influence of US culture on the UK.
"Baby showers, wedding rehearsals and Halloween parties are commonplace in America and I've definitely seen an increase in these among my family and friends since I've been back living in the UK," she said.
