London, June 29 (ANI): Australia's skipper Michael Clarke has backed young pacer Pat Cummins to perform against England in five-match ODI series.
The teenage pacer is set to play his first international match on English soil in the Lord's clash on Friday.
Clarke said Cummins showed in his performances in South Africa late last year that he could handle the big occasion.
"He will be out to enjoy himself and do as well as he possibly can," Clarke said.
New South Welshman Cummins made his debut for Australia at just 18 in a Twenty20 match against South Africa in Cape Town, Fox Sports reports.
He then impressed in the 2-1 one-day series win before producing a man-of-the-match performance on Test debut in Johannesburg.
After hitting the winning runs at the Wanderers, Cummins succumbed to a foot injury and has only just returned to national team.
Clarke also backed former NSW teammate Phil Hughes to fight his way back into the team.
The left-hander, who has scored 1072 runs at 34.58 in 17 Tests, was dropped from the Test side seven months ago following failures against New Zealand.
"The most important thing for Phil Hughes is to make as many runs as he possibly can. It does not matter where you play it is about scoring runs and trying to get picked for Australia and I am pretty sure that is what Hughesy's attitude will be as a player," said Clarke, who is also a selector under the new regime.
