London, June 28(ANI): Tottenham Hotspurs has slapped a 40 million pound price tag on their star midfielder Luka Modric amidst reports that the Croatian international is planning to submit a transfer request.
If Modric formally submits a transfer request to the club, it could prompt a tug-of-war between Manchester United and Real Madrid for his signing.
United are keen on an all-cash deal, while Madrid prefers a cash-plus-players arrangement, The Sun reports.
Modric's agent has held discreet talks with Madrid, and he said a proposition would be made to Tottenham in the next few days.
Spurs' failure to provide Champions League football is believed to be a key reason behind Modric's decision to move away, and speculation has been rife that various other top players could also follow Modric out of White Hart Lane.
However, Wales' winger Gareth Bale has pledged his future with the North London club by signing a new four-year long contract worth 115,000 pounds a week. (ANI)
