'P.A. Sangma has failed in state politics': Meghalaya CM

Shillong, Sat, 23 Jun 2012 ANI

Shillong, June 23 (ANI): Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has called former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma a failure in state politics.

"I have already maintained that he is complete reflection of his frustration because he has failed in state politics, he has failed as an MLA and therefore, that is reflected by his action," he said.

Mukul Sangma said that being a tribal leader, P A Sangma, has contributed nothing for his own constituency and tribals, which could have otherwise changed the lives of the people in a much better way.

"I am sure, with such a long innings in politics, with so much of privileges, having been in power, where he had held such position from where he could have done so much to make a difference in the lives of the people, particularly, in whose name is he claiming that he is a candidate," said Mukul Sangma.

"Can you ever show me any area of his contribution where his contribution has been able to make a difference in the lives of the poor tribals, forget about the whole country? If you look at his constituency, where the whole Garo hills region is in such a mess, in such a problem, which the government is trying to address now. Forget about the whole Garo hills, you go to his village, his own village and his wife village and you find out," he added.

P.A. Sangma, who is in the fray for the presidential poll, has so far sought the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced their support for Sangma last month.

Sangma, who is determined to contest the presidential poll as a candidate of the Tribal Forum of India, quit the NCP earlier this week on grounds that his self-respect was being compromised.

The presidential elections will be held on July 19. The vote count will take place on July 22.
