'Rejuvenated' Bell keen to cement opening partnership with captain Cook

London, Thu, 21 Jun 2012 ANI

London, June 21(ANI): England batsman Ian Bell, who recently made a comeback into the one-day team, has expressed a desire to carry forward his growing partnership with captain Alastair Cook at the top of the order in the shorter version of cricket for England.

The duo have scored two centuries and one 50 between them in two games since Bell took over from Kevin Pietersen as opening batsman.

Bell's promotion has given him the chance to replenish his 50-over career after more than 100 matches of jumping up and down the order, but not fulfilling his talent.

Cook and Bell's stand of 122 set up England's series clinching win by eight wickets over West Indies on Tuesday.

"I wanted another crack at the top and KP's retirement gave me that chance. It's started nicely, now I want to continue improving the partnership with Cooky," The Sun quoted Bell, as saying.

"We've played 70-odd Tests together, so know each other inside out. Using two new balls helps us time the ball, it remains hard and feels like it flies off the bat," he added.

With the Champions Trophy transpiring at England next summer, they are eyeing their first global 50-over title. (ANI)
