London, June 14 (ANI): Freddie Flintoff, who has been wrestling crocs in Australia, drinking goat's blood with Masai warriors in Tanzania and camping in the Borneo jungle with killer creepy crawlies in the Discovery Channel series 'Freddie Flintoff Goes Wild', has revealed that at the start he couldn't even put his own tent up.
In the fourth and final episode, the former Australian cricketer visits Canada's wild west coast, searching for wolves and killer whales.
"We couldn't afford foreign holidays when I was growing up. We used to go to my aunt's static caravan in Scotland," the Sun quoted him as saying.
"I didn't go abroad till I was 15, on a cricket tour to South Africa. During my career I travelled the world but didn't see anything but hotels, cricket grounds and gyms.
"The TV series was a chance to really see the countries and go to places I'd only ever read about or seen on the telly," he said.
With his warmth and sense of adventure, he is great on TV especially when wrestling a 5ft crocodile in Australia's Northern Territory.
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared," he said.
"But it was an unbelievable experience. The point wasn't just to show off his Crocodile Dundee skills, though.
"Aboriginals live off the land and crocodile is on the menu so we had to trap one for dinner. It tastes like a cross between chicken and pork," he said.
It might sound like he's been hiding a Bear Grylls persona behind those cricket whites, but last year he filmed another Discovery documentary, 'Alone In The Wild'.
"I spent a week on my own with no food, no water, fending for myself.
"I saw animals close up although it showed my lack of survival skills. His lack of bushman craft makes him all the more likeable.
"At the start I was useless at just putting up my tent. But hopefully viewers will see it from a man on the street's perspective," he said.
Freddie now hopes to explore India for a second series. But he reckons it's too early to compare him to TV greats Sir Richard Attenborough and Michael Palin.
"Attenborough is the best of the best and I love Palin, too. With sport you want to get better and better and that's what I want to do with presenting ??" for a long time," he added. (ANI)
