London, June 14 (ANI): Joey Barton has slammed 'The X Factor' for exploiting wannabes and is worried that the judges of the show could become targets for a disgruntled wannabe.
The bad boy of football is due to serve a 12-match ban next season for violent conduct.
"You get people who are clearly mentally deficient being openly laughed at by the judges and the public," the Sun quoted the QPR star as writing in his column in The Big Issue.
"How long before one of these contestants turns up bearing a grudge, seeking revenge? While such shows create opportunities, they're the wrong sort.
"They exploit, they feed corporate greed, they churn up and consume human souls on a ridiculous scale, year on year. The X Factor turns out, in the end, to be a show for really talented people, giving them the chance to rise to stardom from humble beginnings," he said.
He also commented on how people make money out of this show.
"But it comes at the expense of making someone else incredibly rich - and the carnage of the contestants' private lives being dragged on to the public agenda to sell the show," he added. (ANI)
