Bolt may face charges over 'trashing' second BMW in 3 yrs

Kingston, Tue, 12 Jun 2012 ANI

Kingston, June 12(ANI): Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt who crashed his second car in three years, may face charges if found guilty.

Bolt, 25, reportedly crashed his BMW M3 coupe into a guard rail near a transport hub in Kingston, at around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning after attending a party.

Jamaican deputy commissioner of police, Glenmore Hinds claimed that Bolt would be treated like any other citizen in the situation.

"No one is above the law and justice will be served with equity and thorough investigations will be undertaken just the same. We operate a legal regime here in Jamaica. All persons who are found guilty before the courts will go through the same process, and will be charged accordingly," The Age quoted Hinds, as saying.

Bolt's publicist, Carole Beckford, claimed that the sprinter was unhurt in the accident, the paper said.

"There were no injuries at all. He is fine and resting at home," Beckford was quoted as saying.

Fellow Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell, who was rumoured to be in the car with Bolt at the time, clarified the situation on Twitter.

"My friend and countryman [Bolt] is ok after a fender bender. Contrary to the news, I was in another car," Powell posted under his Twitter account @officialasafa.

The single car accident on Sunday in Kingston was the second crash involving Bolt and a BMW. He had previously rolled a high-powered BMW M3 in 2009. (ANI)
