US woman sues for $500 billion after city council sells impounded car

Sydney, June 11 (ANI): A US woman has sued a city council for 500 billion-dollar in damages after her car was towed and disposed of without her knowledge.

Michelle R Mathis wrote a handwritten note demanding the lofty amount in damages after her crashed car was disposed of by the Columbus city council while she was in hospital, automotive website the newspaper.com, reported.

Mathis was being treated for injuries following a car accident on January 12, while her car, a 2002 model Saturn SC2 coupe, was towed and impounded.

Mathis has claimed that she never received notification of the status of her car. Mathis then apparently attempted to retrieve her car from the impound lot on February 7, only to find it was no longer there.

Mathis's claim included that the city "sold her car" and that it "holds a grudge against her", the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Judge Elizabeth A Preston Deavers ruled the city of Columbus had no duty to return the crashed car to its owner, that it had followed all protocols, and that her recommendation was for the case to be dismissed.

"The mere fact that plaintiff had poor experiences with the towing of a vehicle she previously owned is not enough for the court to reasonably conclude that the city of Columbus has adopted an implicit custom or policy that encourages its employees to violate plaintiff's federal rights," Deavers wrote.

"Accordingly, plaintiff fails to satisfy the requisite pleading standards for municipal liability," Deavers added. (ANI)
