The Who and Take That to perform at London 2012 closing ceremony

London, June 10 (ANI): Organisers have secured some of the best British acts for the August 12 Olympic closing ceremony, including The Who and Take That.

They've promised that the concert will "appeal to every generation" when it takes place at London's Olympic Park this Summer.

"It is imperative the Games close in spectacular fashion and that there is substance as well as style," the Daily Mail quoted a committee source as telling the Daily Mirror.

"The committee wanted four major artists, representing Britain over the past 50 years, to headline.

"The Who are an inspired throwback to the swinging 60s," the source added.

Legends Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will take to the stage to belt out their hits, as will boyband Take That, George Michael and a more recent artist, Emili Sande.

However, before fans get excited about The Who resurrecting late drummer Keith Moon using a hologram, they should think again.

Frontman Daltrey revealed that organisers made the embarrassing mistake of inviting Moon to take part even though he died in 1978.

The band's manager Bill Curbishley received an invitation for Moon to attend, with Daltrey joking that that could only happen in the UK.

The 68-year-old singer added that they could attempt to contact Moon via a seance.

However, one star who will be there in person is singer George Michael.

The 48-year-old star's appearance will be his first since he fell ill with pneumonia last year.

"George is a global icon and this will be a major comeback," organisers said.

"The gig will be a fitting Olympics send-off," they added.

But it's not just singing that will be taking place at the huge event, as supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will also be participating in the show.

Creating this spectacular finale is Kim Gavin - who organised Take That's comeback Circus tour.

"Kim has worked with Take That before and the boys, including Robbie Williams, will put on their most dazzling show," a source told the publication.

The closing ceremony will not only include the handover to the next host city, Rio de Janeiro, but will also feature the extinguishing of the Olympic flame. (ANI)
