Agartala, June 9 (ANI): Economic activities in Tripura and the rising per capita income has resulted in enhanced sale of two wheelers in the state.
More than 1.3 lakh two wheelers are registered in the state.
Every major brand in the country is now looking to tap the Tripura market.
The dealers are having a good time as their sales have gone up.
"In 1991, we used to sell just 35-40 bikes a month in Agartala. But, today the number has increased to nearly 2500 bikes, and every two-wheeler brand has a presence in the state," Nagesh Mehta, owner of a two-wheeler showroom, said.
People in the urban areas are buying more bikes as their living standards have gone up, while rural areas continue to be an important market.
"In rural areas, two wheelers are doing good business. People go for good bikes that have good mileage. Six years ago it was a different story and six years later it will be altogether a different story. The sale of two wheelers is consistently increasing in the urban areas," Sujoy Gupta, a sales Manager, said.
The growth of the two-wheeler market has increased employment opportunities. The state now has huge skilled force of technicians, mechanics and sales executives.
The ancillary market associated with two wheelers has also seen growth.
"With the opening up of such bike showrooms, new avenues of employment for the youth have opened up and educated people have got jobs here," Sumita Bhattacharjee, an employee at a two-wheeler showroom, said.
The two-wheeler market in Agartala generates taxes worth Rs 50 lakh for the government and this figure is expected to increase in times to come. (ANI)

Excellent!! - this indeed is a proof of Tripura being transformed in to an economic hotspot and an aspiring leader of India's charge towards economic supremacy!
I hope all the industry bigshots takes note of this and reap the benefits of an emerging business goldmine in Tripura (also an acting gateway to economically vibrant Southeast Asia and neighbored by Bangladesh, China and Myanmar)!
