Coalgate: 'PM followed a transparent method', says Narayanasamy

Chennai , Sat, 09 Jun 2012 ANI

Chennai, June 9 (ANI): Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V. Narayanasamy on Saturday ruled out the involvement of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the coal scam, and held the companies responsible for furnishing illegal documents.

Narayanasamy said the Prime Minister had nothing to do with the arrears.

" If the coal blocks were auctioned as told by the CAG, it would be very difficult for the government to impose condition on the power producing units to give power at 3.15 rupees," he added.

Narayanasamy said all the decisions were taken keeping in mind the welfare of the people.

"The coal blocks were allocated by the transparent method to the companies for the production of energy to the public sector undertakings and private sector, and also joint sector with the state government. The paramount importance was public welfare," said Narayanasamy.

"And the CAG has no business, no power, has no authority to question the government's policy. They can only consider whether the new process has been followed or not," he added.

Narayanasamy further said veteran social activist Anna Hazare was surrounded by anti-national elements.

"As far as Anna Hazare is concerned, he has been surrounded by anti-national elements. Some are supported by some foreign forces. And therefore, Anna Hazare has been changing his version all the time," said Narayanasamy.

"Because as far as the honourable Prime Minster is concerned, he is a clean person, he has got impeccable integrity and the Prime Minister has got a reputation in the whole world and nobody can question his integrity. These, not only Anna Hazare, even the people of this country know," he added.

According to reports, the Prime Minister's Office today dispatched a letter to Anna Hazare, saying that allegations against the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on the coal blocks allocation issue were baseless.

The CBI had last month started a preliminary probe into alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks in 2006-09.

According to reports, the CBI has formed 14 small teams within its economic offences wing (EOW) to scrutinize documents pertaining to allocation of coal blocks, and seek details from private firms that were given these mines.

The Bharatiya Janata Party had earlier this month said Team Anna raising the issue of alleged corruption in allocation of coal blocs was a "natural consequence" of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh "shying away" from replying to the opposition's demands for a clarification in Parliament.

Anna Hazare had earlier said he suspected whether the Prime Minister is clean after going through the CAG report on coal allocation and the file prepared by his team members.

"I have seen the papers, I have suspicion. I had always thought that he was a clean Prime Minister, but after reading the files I doubt there is something wrong," he said. (ANI)
