Krakow, June 9(ANI): The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has given its word to tackle any kind of racist incidents blooming during the ongoing Euro 2012 after being made aware that there were some isolated incidents of racist chanting at the open training session of the Dutch team.
The Euros were marred with racist incidents even before it started, when several Holland players complained that they were subjected to monkey chants during training, with captain Mark Van Bommel even threatening to walk out of the pitch if his players were racially abused further.
UEFA said they would consider increasing the number of stewards at open training sessions in order to get rid of fans if there was a repeat.
"UEFA has now been made aware that there were some isolated incidents of racist chanting at the open training session of the Dutch team," The Daily Star quoted a UEFA statement, as saying.
"Should such behaviour happen at further training sessions, UEFA would evaluate the operational measures to be taken to protect the players. UEFA has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to discriminatory behaviour and has given the power to referees to stop matches in the case of any repeated racist behaviour," the statement added.
The Dutch FA issued their own statement confirming some of their players heard "possible monkey chants".
They added that they will not make an official complaint to UEFA but will cooperate with any investigation. (ANI)
