New Delhi, June 8 (IANS) A 37-year-old man was arrested for cheating several people on the pretext of giving them jobs in merchant navy, police said here Friday.

Gurusharan Singh of East Patel Nagar in west Delhi ran an institute and charged Rs.7-8 lakh from each student, promising them lucrative jobs abroad.

He was arrested Wednesday from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh where he ran another institute.

The arrest was made following a complaint by Himanshu Gaba, a resident of Gurgaon, who did not get a job after completing the course from Singh's institute in Delhi.

Gaba had paid Rs.7 lakh as fee.

However, after GAba completed his training, Singh started avoiding him and relocated his office.

Gaba managed to track him down and was offered a job in Cyprus.

However, as soon as he landed in Cyprus, he was detained by the customs officials for travelling on fake documents. He was kept with other students of the institute before being deported.

Singh was running the racket for 10 years.
