Himachal Pradesh,Diplomacy, Thu, 07 Jun 2012 IANS

Dharamsala, June 7 (IANS) As External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna ended his China visit, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai Thursday held a closed-door meeting with the Dalai Lama here.

There was no indication of the nature of the talks but the Dalai Lama's office said "issues of common interest" were discussed.

The talks at the official palace of the Dalai Lama lasted about 90 minutes, said a Tibetan official. "At the meeting, the Dalai Lama and his aides were present," he said.

Earlier, Mathai flew to this picturesque hill station on a two-day visit.

In July 2010, then foreign secretary Nirupama Rao met the Dalai Lama here.

The Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959. The Tibetan government-in-exile is based in Dharamsala.
