London, June 7(ANI): Interim Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is close to nailing down the permanent position at Stamford Bridge following owner Roman Abramovich's futile efforts to convince former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola to end his long sabbatical.
According to the Daily Mail, sources at Stamford Bridge are confident the Italian will still be in charge at the start of the new season.
Nothing has been agreed yet, and last night it remained uncertain as to how long a contract is being discussed for Di Matteo, who guided the Blues to a stunning Champions League and FA Cup double last month.
Di Matteo enjoys the players' support, and various senior players have publicly said they would like Di Matteo to stay at the helm.
The former West Bromwich Albion manager is concerned that he could be keeping the managerial seat warm while the club waits for Guardiola, but he also has options in Italy. (ANI)
