London, Jun 7 (ANI): Graeme Swann needs five wickets in the Investec third Test against the West Indies at Edgbaston to equal off-spin legend Jim Laker's milestone of 193.
Swann is unlikely to match Laker's match figures of 19-90 in 1956, although he did record his Test best 6-65 against Pakistan at Edgbaston two years ago, The Daily Mirror reports.
He said: "It's flattering when you find yourself in situations where you can go past absolute legends of the game in the record books. I don't count myself as someone who deserves to be compared with Jim Laker because I can't see anyone taking 19 wickets in a single Test match again," Swann said.
He said: "Unfortunately I never saw him bowl - all I've ever watched is the grainy, black-and-white footage of him turning it square, but my dad still reveres him. And in a way I don't want to go level with Laker, or go past him, because I don't consider myself in the same league as him, and yet I find myself on the same page of the record books.
"Two years ago, the wicket at Edgbaston offered generous turn from early in the game, and it's always agreeable to go back on grounds where you've enjoyed success in the past."
The Windies are 2-0 down and will be wary of Swann's trick. (ANI)
