Kolkata, Jun 5 (IANS) To protect the greenery, a group of visually-challenged students observed the World Environment Day by planting medicinal trees here Tuesday.

The 50 students, who took out a rally from Deshapriya Park in south Kolkata, planted the saplings at Rabindra Sarobar, where the rally culminated.

The programme was organised by the National Institute of Professionals to spread awareness among students about pollution, global warming and deforestation.

"If a visually-challenged person can plant a tree for environmental protection, there is no reason why others cannot plant and protect trees," West Bengal Commissioner of Disability Mita Banerjee said during the event.
