New Delhi, May 31 (ANI): Experts have denied that Team Anna's graft allegations would tarnish Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's reputation.
Team Anna have levelled corruption charges against Dr. Singh and 15 Cabinet Ministers, over a draft CAG report.
They have particularly questioned the Dr. Singh over the mining rights for coal blocks, allocated without auctioning them between November 2006 and May 2009.
Sanjay Kumar, a fellow at the Center for the Study of Developing Societies, a New Delhi-based think-tank dismissed the allegations as "obnoxious".
He said that this was "not a reflection of the PM's character or his style of functioning. This is a reflection of Team Anna's frustration for not being able to achieve their goals."
Kumar also said that the "people of India will not take these allegations seriously unless Team Anna comes up with substantial evidence against him."
Professor Chintamani Mahapatra of Jawaharlal Nehru University said, "His (Dr. Manmohan Singh's)reputation as Mr. Clean will not be tarnished unless legally proved."
Team Anna believes Manmohan Singh and some cabinet ministers should be investigated for the alleged coal scam that auditors estimate a loss of 200 billion dollars to the exchequer.
Dr. Singh has slammed Team Anna's allegation as "irresponsible" and denied any wrongdoing.
"I will give up my public life if allegations are proved against me," Singh said. (ANI)
