Former F1 champion Niki Lauda warns having different winners could turn off fans

Wellington, Wed, 30 May 2012 ANI

Wellington, May 30(ANI): Three time Formula One champions Niki Lauda has said having different winners during a Formula One season could have side effects such as losing followers.

There have been six different winners during the first six races of this year's Formula One season, and Lauda says this is not good for the sport.

"It was very interesting in the beginning, we all were surprised," Stuff.co.nz quoted Lauda, as saying.

"But if this continues...then we will lose spectators or interest because the main public wants to see the world champions winning. We need two races with known winners and then the crazy stuff can start again," he added.

There are three more champions on the starting grid who are yet to win this season, and if McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen and Mercedes' Michael Schumacher wins next three races one each, that would mean nine races with nine different winners. (ANI)
