Srinagar, May 30(ANI): A complete shutdown across the Kashmir Valley marked the third anniversary of the infamous Shopian rape and murder case here.
The shutdown call, given by hardliner, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been supported by various separatist groups.
All shops, business establishments, schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed and public transport is off the roads.
The Shopian incident dates back to May 2009, when two young women were found dead in a local stream, sparking a long agitation in the state as family and locals maintained that the women were raped and murdered by the men in uniform.
Two top police officers, indicted for destruction of evidence by a one-man judicial commission, were reinstated after a brief suspension, and a subsequent CBI probe ruled out rape-and-murder. By Fayaz Ahmad(ANI)
