Melbourne, May 28 (ANI): A plan to construct Australia's largest brothel is poised to overcome opposition of local government.
Commissioner Susan O'Neill of the Land and Environment Court of NSW revealed that the 12 million dollars, three-storey extension to the Stiletto brothel near the city centre can be approved once the client numbers are capped, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
O'Neill has asked for submissions from the lawyers on how to limit customers before giving the final consent.
Such a ruling would be a win for Artazan Property Group, the Sydney firm which is overseeing the project, and the state's sex industry.
According to Scarlet Alliance, which represents Australian sex workers revealed that even after being decriminalized in 1995, NSW brothel owners are increasingly turning to courts to reverse rejections by councils opposed to the industry.
"We're at risk because of the way local government is treating the industry: refusing applications in the name of politics," said Julie Bates, who prepares development applications for sex-services premises as head of Sydney-based firm Urban Realists Planning and Health Consultants.
"Brothels are never going to be a vote winner," she said.
The Susan O'Neill, which was earlier rejected in September by the City of Sydney council, comprised of 40 working rooms, 21 waiting rooms and a 24-space basement parking lot.
"I am satisfied that the proposal can be approved," O'Neill added. (ANI)
