Three die in Jharkhand mine collapse

Ranchi, May 26 (IANS) Three women miners, involved in illegal mining, died after an abandoned mine caved-in in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district Saturday, police said.

According to police sources, seven to eight women were Saturday morning extracting coal from an abandoned coal mine situated at Munidih colliery of Dhanbad district, around 230 km from Ranchi. The roof of the mine caved-in and all of them got trapped.

The villagers, according to police sources, escaped with the bodies to avoid police wrath. A rescue operation to rescue other trapped women was still going on.
