Srinagar, May 23 (IANS) After more than 20 days of unusual cold and wet weather, there is finally some good news for the Kashmir Valley.
"Since the atmosphere is quite stable now, the weather is likely to remain dry during the next seven days with a gradual increase in day and night temperatures," said Sonam lotus, director of the weather office.
"No major rainfall is expected during this period. However, isolated thundershowers cannot be ruled out," lotus told IANS.
Due to unusual rainfall during the last 20 days with intermittent dry spells, day and night temperatures had fallen across the valley, giving the locals and tourists a feel of cold.
lotus has now advised tourists intending to visit the valley to bring with them only some woolens as the temperatures are likely to increase.
The minimum temperature was 8.7 degrees Celsius in Srinagar Thursday, which is two degrees less than normal. It is 2.4 degrees in Pahalgam and 0.2 in Gulmarg, the latter being six degrees less than normal.
The minimum temperature in leh was 5.4 degrees; it was 4.6 degrees in Kargil.
