New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V. Narayanasamy on Wednesday hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for taking on the UPA Government over CAG reports not being presented in Parliament, saying it has become a fashion for some political parties, including the main opposition, to criticize the government.
"As far as the CAG report is concerned, according to the procedure, the report, initially they will prepare a draft report, then the ministry will be given a chance to respond, then after that CAG finalizes report. After it is approved by the President, it will be given to the ministry concerned for presentation before the Parliament," said Narayanasamy.
"It has become a fashion for some political parties, including BJP, when the draft report is prepared coming to the public and saying that scam has happened and create an inspiration in the minds of people that corruption is taking place," he added.
Requesting the CAG to go by the mandate that has been given to them, Narayanasamy said: "I request the CAG to go by the mandate, not to go beyond the mandate that has been given to them. As far as the Bharatiya Janata Party is concerned, simply because something comes in the newspaper, raising the issue without any authentication, without any document. This has become a habit of the BJP."
"Unfortunately, the media is also playing at the hands of all these things. It is unfortunate," he added.
Narayanasamy also informed that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India had written a letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh regretting over reports on the coal issue in the media.
"You know pretty well on coal issue, coal allotment, when they said there is ten crores scam. Thereafter, the CAG wrote a letter to the honourable Prime Minister regretting for what has come in the media on that coal issue. Unless and until the Public Accounts Committee after going through the report, after taking the evidence of the officials in the present of all party members, who are present in the Public Accounts Committee, and then report is presented," said Narayanasamy.
"These are all widely preliminary. Opportunity is to be given to officers concerned to explain," he added.
The BJP had earlier on Tuesday hit out at the Congress-UPA Government at the Centre over the delay in tabling a CAG report on allocation of coal blocks.
BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said a fresh scam with regard to the allocation of coal blocks has surfaced before the people of the country, and added that there has been a loss of 180 trillion rupees as per the CAG report.
"Once again, a scam has surfaced worth 180 trillion rupees now regarding the allocation of coal blocks. About 156 coal blocks in this country have been allocated to private companies. The CAG report shows that there has been a loss of 180 trillion rupees," he said.
Rudy further alleged that there has been a lack of initiative on part of the ruling government on this issue.
"There has been a lack of initiative on the part of the government and they have not ordered for probe and they are not responding. Like there was a 2G scam, Commonwealth Games scam, Adarsh Housing society, in the same way this scam has now come forth before the country, where 180 trillion rupees has been looted," said Rudy.
Both houses of Parliament were disrupted yesterday over the CAG reportedly pointing to a loss of over Rs. 1,80,000 crore in the allotment of coal blocks. (ANI)
