New Delhi, May 20 (ANI): The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) celebrated its Annual Day here over the weekend.
Cost accountants from across the country, other distinguished guests and luminaries attended the event, which was held in the Banquet Hall of The Ashok Hotel.
The highlight of the event, which was organized on Saturday night, was program showcasing the cultural variety of India through its unique dance forms.
The program commenced with noted Mohiniatam exponent Jayprabha Menon performing the Ganesha Vandhana. It was followed by ten other dance sequences, which included the lyrical Ghoomar from Rajasthan, a brilliant Kuchipudi dance by youngster Tanya Goswami, who has received several awards from the Andhra Pradesh Government, an exhilarating and amazing stick dance by Manipuri dancers and Bharatnatyam by Surubhi Barua.
The cultural program also featured the traditional Lavni Dance from Maharashtra, the acrobatic Dhol Cholum dance from Manipur, Dandia from Gujarat and A.R Rehman's popular number "Jai Ho" from the movie "Slumdog Millionaire", which was performed by Manipuri dancers via the state's popular "Lion Dance".
The popular Bhangra and Gidda by folk dancers from Punjab rounded off the cultural program.
Speaking on the occasion, M. Gopalakrishnan, President, ICAI, said the institute had been created by an act of Parliament in 1959, and added that this year's annual day was held to celebrate the contributions made by cost accountants in various spheres from across the country.
He said the annual event was also momentous and memorable because of the changing of the name of the institute from "The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI)" to "The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI)".
Mr. Gopalakrishnan also revealed with pleasure that among the dozen civilian mountaineers from Pune who had scaled Mount Everest on Saturday, one of them was a cost accountant. He described it as proud achievement for the institute. (ANI)
