Anglo-Indian MP quits Congress posts after being 'ignored'

Chhattisgarh,Politics, Sat, 19 May 2012 IANS

Raipur, May 19 (IANS) Ingrid Mcleod, a nominated member of the lok Sabha representing the Anglo-Indian community, Saturday quit all posts of the Congress party peeved over the alleged insult meted out to her by senior Congress leaders at a party function here.

"Ms Mcleod violated party discipline as well as protocol and therefore her resignation has been accepted," Congress General Secretary and Chhattisgarh in-charge B.K. Hariprasad said.

According to Ms Mcleod, she was sitting on the dais from where AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was to address NSUI workers at Raj Kumar College Friday afternoon, when B.K. Hariprasad came and allegedly told her to get off the dais as she was not in the list of persons who were to sit there.

Mcleod came off the dais and later complained to Rahul Gandhi, who also supported Hariprasad. She then submitted her resignation from all posts of the Congress which was accepted by the party.

Ingrid Mcleod is from Bilaspur. She started her career as a teacher and social worker. She was nominated to the Chhattisgarh assembly for nearly two-and-half years by then chief minister Ajit Jogi before being nominated to the lok Sabha.
