Bandipora (J and K), May 16 (ANI): The Indian Army organized a cricket tournament here to encourage youth to acquire a spirit of sportsmanship and to revive a passion for playing cricket among locals.
Interacting with reporters on Wednesday, General Officer Commanding, Kilo Force (Rashtriya Rifles), Major General Sarath Chand, said, " This time, from each district, a team will be participating, and this year too, we hope that this tournament will be successful."
The Bandipora Premier League is a run up to the Kashmir Premier League, which is to be conducted in Srinagar in June. A total of ten teams from Bandipora District are participating in the tournament.
The cricketers said the game would be fruitful in wading off the tensed atmosphere in the valley.
"The motive of this tournament is to attract youth towards the game and create a friendly atmosphere for overall development of the state. The Kashmiri youth and Army will come closer through such initiatives," said a cricketer, Reyaz Ahmed. (ANI)
