QPR skipper likely to face 10-match ban

London, Mon, 14 May 2012 ANI

London, May 14 (ANI): Queens Park Rangers skipper Joey Barton is likely to get a 10-match ban for his red card offence at Manchester City.

The QPR midfielder was dismissed in the 55th minute for elbowing City striker Carlos Tevez in the face.

Then he kneed Sergio Aguero in the back of the thigh and attempted to head-butt Vincent Kompany.

The FA is certain to hit Barton hard especially after he admitted that he was deliberately trying to get a City player sent off with him, The Daily Star reports.

He tweeted: "The head was never gone at any stage. Once I'd been sent off, one of our players suggested I should try to take one of theirs with me. Never worked, but God loves a trier.

"Not my proudest moment, but who gives a f**k, we are safe and that's all that matters."

QPR boss Mark Hughes refused to defend his captain, despite his 55th-minute dismissal putting the club's Premier League survival on the line. (ANI)
