London, May 13 (ANI): Nigerian footballer John Obi Mikel has blamed Andre Villas Boas for his inability to communicate effectively with Chelsea's players as the reason for former manager's regime collapsing.
Mikel revealed that confusion reigned under Villas Boas because of his frustrating failure to get his message across to his squad.
"The communication was not right. AVB is a great manager. He has done well for himself and is only young. But when you are young, coming into a business like this you are going to make mistakes," The Sun quoted Mikel, as saying.
The Nigeria international reckoned that some players were left wondering whether it was even worth making an effort in training.
"Nobody knew what was happening. When you have something like that in your mind, you don't know what to do. You come into training and think, 'Should I train well, because I don't know if I'm going to be playing at the weekend? Things like that just went on and on," he added.
Mikel claimed that in the end, his feeling was that Villas-Boas' overall inexperience forced the need for a shake-up.
"You think you have played well in a game and the manager then leaves you out. You don't know the reason why," he said.
Mikel hailed the impact of Roberto Di Matteo and his fellow Chelsea players for rescuing a season that was in crisis. (ANI)
