New Delhi/ Lucknow, May 9 (ANI): Minister of State for Home Jitender Singh on Wednesday condemned the honour killing comment's made by a senior Uttar Pradesh cop, saying sensitivity should be maintained while listening to the complaint of everybody.
"I believe he should not have made such comments. Sensitivity should be maintained. But it is a matter of the state government, the Government of India can say very little on this. Sensitivity should be maintained while listening to the complaint of everybody," he said.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma expressed her ire over the comments, and said the Uttar Pradesh Government should suspend the senior police official with immediate effect and order an inquiry into the entire episode.
"As far as I see this incident, the DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) has tried to escape from his responsibility. It is his responsibly that whenever somebody approaches him, whether it is a male or a female, and asks for help, he should have assisted the concerned person. This was a cowardly answer from him. I would ask the state government to suspend him and then investigate as to why did he give such an answer," she said.
Saharanpur DIG Satish has allegedly been caught on camera telling the father of a missing girl that had she been his daughter, he 'would have killed her and committed suicide'.
The IPS officer allegedly made the callous remark when Shaukeen Mohammed approached the police to track down his daughter, saying he believed she had eloped.
The local journalists, who were present at the police station, allegedly recorded the comments of the senior police official on camera. (ANI)
