Avengers 'slammed' for Indian slum scene

London, May 8 (ANI): 'The avengers' has drawn criticism from several Bollywood stars, who are dismayed about the poor depiction of India in its opening scene.
The movie, which was in limelight for its huge success, is now in the news for all the wrong reasons.
The movie opens showing Hulk's alter ego, Dr. Bruce Banner, played by Mark Ruffalo, hiding in the slums of Kolkata curing lepers.
Despite having grossed well in other countries, some members of India's film fraternity have expressed their disappointment over the scene, which were actually shot in New Mexico, zeroed in on indigence.
"Kolkata has a rich culture and heritage, and a filmmaker should respect that. There are two scenes about India, and they only show slums. It could have been done in better taste," the Daily Express quoted Rituparna Sengupta was quoted as saying.
Another Bollywood actress, Neha Dhupia also expressed her concerns at the portrayal of India in Hollywood.
"It is disturbing to see the murky underbelly of India in Hollywood films. But before pointing it out to the West, we need to make efforts to change their perception about us," she said. (ANI)
