New Delhi, May 7 (IANS) Union Minister for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath Monday met the representatives of community-based organisations working for transgenders, sex workers and urban poor from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra.

She discussed with them the issues faced by such organisations, and explained the benefits of various ministry-run schemes.

The representatives pointed out the difficulties in integrating with the society because of the discrimination and stigma associated with their work.

Citing the lack of a permanent address as another problem, they said that they could not access government welfare schemes or provide safe shelter for their children.
