DJ Fatboy Slim enthralls Gurgaon

Haryana,Cinema/Showbiz, Sun, 06 May 2012 IANS

Gurgaon, May 6 (IANS) British Disco Jockey (DJ) Norman Quentin Cook a.k.a. Fatboy Slim's maiden performance here Saturday night turned out to be a treat for lovers of electronic and house music.

HUDA Grounds, the venue, reverberated with the sound of music and the audience's energy.

After French DJ David Guetta's gig here in March, Cook is the second international artiste to hit the console in India this year.

While Guetta's shows were a runaway success, 48-year-old Cook's performance was not far behind.

The show began with two Indian DJs -- Arjun Vagale and Dualist Inquiry -- giving the audience some warm up music in the house and progressive house genres.

The show's setting was interesting. The backdrop of the console had a picture of a melting sun and voice over welcoming and explaining the past, present and future.

Fatboy Slim gave a rolling entry from the dark with psychedelic radioactive beats in the background and started off his performance with "Now you are going to die" followed by "I am in Delhi", an altered version of "Chuckie".

Fatboy also presented late Michael Jackson's classic number "Billie Jean" in a house avatar. Apart from this, he also doled out some hip-hop numbers to satisfy the varying musical appetite of the crowd.

Tickets for event were priced between Rs.4,500 and Rs.1,500.

For the fans, it was worth it.

"I was standing almost by the railing and it was epic because the crowd was dancing on every track. I was completely sucked into the energy of his music. The best part was that I got to hold the green balloon which Fatboy threw towards the crowd. Plus I found a Rs.500 note on the ground," Rohit, a fan of the DJ, told IANS.

"I love the way he mixes music, even at the age of 50," said Lachlan, an official from the Australian High Commission, who had come to see the performance.

To make the event interactive, the DJ used the backdrop as a mood board that displayed visualisations of vintage videos, animated faces of him and cartoon characters.

Organisers of the Fatboy Slim India Tour are 6th Dimension Entertainment, Elements Inc., Submerge and 3rd Rock Entertainment.

Fatboy Slim next performs in Bengaluru Sunday.
