UK school smashes world record for largest ever human Olympic rings

London, May 2 (ANI): More than 2000 students and their teachers in Britain joined together in colourful clothing to form the world's largest ever human Olympic rings logo.

A staggering 2,100 pupils and staff dressed in t-shirts, jumpers and even banana suits to make the yellow, black, red, green and blue circles.

The spectacular display was photographed from a helicopter as it hovered above Bay House School, in Gosport, Hampshire.

Their efforts smashed the Guinness World Record for the 'largest human Olympic rings', beating the previous record of 1,900.

The excited boys and girls even raised 2,000 pounds for the African charity Friends of Mulanje Orphans by paying not to wear their school uniform.

Abi Marlowe, 15, who visited the orphanage last year and dressed in red for the challenge, was delighted to have broken the record.

"This school has great team spirit and I'm so proud of our new world record," the Daily Mail quoted her as saying.

"This proves that if you work together you can achieve amazing things," she said.

Councillor Christopher Carter, the Lord Mayor of Gosport, plus the town's MP Caroline Dinenage attended the event.

Dinenage, who stood in the blue ring, said: "The atmosphere was fantastic.

"The students had such a great time and so did I," she said.

Headteacher Ian Potter also spoke on the achievement.

"There was a great spirit and it was a real community event that I shall remember until the day that I die.

"I'm sure the students will too.

"For the school to be a world record breaker is a great achievement," Potter added. (ANI)
