PCB doubting BCB role in cancellation of Bangladesh cricket tour of country

Karachi, Tue, 24 Apr 2012 ANI

Karachi, Apr 24(ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed disappointment at the postponement of the Bangladesh cricket tour to the country, but has not ruled out the possibility of half-hearted efforts from its counterparts that led to the cancellation of the two-match series.

An 'extremely' unhappy PCB is reportedly following the case closely through its legal team and has obtained a copy of the petition.

It also released a statement saying:

"After perusal of the writ by officials of the PCB assisted by legal adviser, prima facie the writ petition is devoid of merits and has been filed against public interest which will be detrimental to the game of cricket. The PCB is hopeful that the BCB will leave no stone unturned to get the stay order vacated."

Several PCB officials also expressed doubt over the deferral as a result of BCB's self-designed campaign to cancel the tour, The Express Tribune reports.

"There are serious questions about the BCB's role. There were many loopholes in the petition, including facts not told correctly to the court. The petition could have been easily defended by the BCB. The final order to postpone the tour for a month at an interim stage of the case also raises questions," an official said.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Mustafa Kamal said his sincerity in reviving international cricket in Pakistan should not be doubted.

Kamal refused to comment on a Bangladesh High Court order or case, but said the BCB would file a reply within the given timeframe, The Daily Times reports.

"Since the matter is sub-judice and our lawyers have to study the full court order, therefore I will not be able to comment on it. Our legal division is working and we will file the reply accordingly," he said. (ANI)
