New Delhi, Apr 19 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced the candidature of S S Ahluwalia for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election from Jharkhand.

Ahluwalia, who is already a Member of Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand, said he was grateful to his party leadership for choosing him to represent Jharkhand in Rajya Sabha.

"I am very grateful to the party leadership, particularly Advani ji, Gadkari ji, Sushma ji and Arun ji and the chief minister of Jharkhand for showing faith in me that I can represent the state of Jharkhand in Rajya Sabha which I have been doing since the inception of the state in 2000," said Ahluwalia.

The announcement of the candidature of Ahluwalia by BJP has put its coalition partner- Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in peculiar situation as the latter has already announced the name of Sanjeev Kumar as its candidate on Wednesday.

The Election Commission had last month countermanded the Rajya Sabha polls in Jharkhand following the seizure of over Rs. two crore from the car of a candidate's relative. (ANI)
