'Yuvraj will be back on field soon', says Rajiv Shukla

Gurgaon, Apr 9 (ANI): BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla on Monday said cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who has returned home after undergoing treatment for germ cell cancer in the USA, will be going into his training mode very shortly and make a comeback into the Indian squad after regaining the strength.

"Definitely, he is very keen to come back and he is going into his training mode very shortly. And after regaining the strength, he will definitely make a come back," he said.

Shukla, who is also the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council, further said Yuvraj is looking much better in terms of medical condition.

"I can't divulge what he has spoken to me, but I can definitely tell you he is much better (than) what I had expected. After struggling with such a disease, if somebody is looking so better, I mean in terms of medical conditions. I think he is improving a lot and soon he will be back on the field," he said.

30-year-old Yuvraj earlier today he would be addressing the media on Wednesday.

"I am very happy to be back home and I am recovering well. I will hold a press conference on Wednesday. So, whatever you want to ask, you can ask there. We'll talk day after," he said.

Yuvraj, who was adjudged the player of the tournament at the 2011 ICC World Cup, had gone to the United States for treatment in January this year.

He was diagnosed with a golf ball-sized non-malignant tumour. However, later in February, the doctors told him that he was suffering from 'mediastinal seminoma'.

Singh, 30, underwent three sessions of chemotherapy in Indianapolis at the I. U. Simon Cancer Centre at the Indiana University Medical Centre in the care Lawrence H Einhorn, who had in 1996 headed the treatment of cycling champion Lance Armstrong, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer. (ANI)
