London, Apr 3 (ANI): A celebrity magazine claims to have found the identity of Adele's mystery ex-boyfriend who has been the subject of her famous heartbreaking songs.

Heat magazine says it has unveiled the previously unknown former love as Alex Sturrock, a 31-year-old photographer, the Telegraph reported.

Sturrock, who has worked for the Guardian and Vice magazine, was said to have secretly dated the singer from summer 2008 to April 2009.

Adele, 23, has always refused to disclose the name of her ex, despite laying her emotions bare in songs such as 'Someone Like You'.

The singer has admitted that she wrote her album '21' to get over their break-up and famously shed a tear over the lyrics during a landmark performance at the 2011 Brit Awards.

"He's the love of my life," Adele had previously said.

Heat magazine has now claimed to have spoken to a close friend of Sturrock, who confirmed he was the mystery man.

The source said the pair had "hit it off straight away" and "spent all their time together", with the photographer joining Adele on her US tour in 2009.

"He's a very normal guy and they'd laugh a lot together, eat junk food and ignore the fact that her career was about to go stratospheric," the friend said.

Adding that the break-up came about after Sturrock was reluctant to call Adele his "girlfriend", the friend said they avoided "doing things as a couple" and being photographed together.

"It was such a volatile relationship and very passionate. When things ended between them there was a lot of animosity and anger," the source added.

The magazine claims they finally broke up when Sturrock began seeing someone else in April 2009.

Adele has previously paid tribute to her ex, saying he "had the biggest impact on me" and "deserves a little credit" for inspiring her work.

Just a month ago, the Sunday Mirror also claimed to unveil the secret inspiration - as part-time DJ Ned Biggs.

In February, the New York Post named musician and actor named Slinky Sunbeam as the mystery ex behind Rolling in the Deep. (ANI)
