Panaji, April 2 (IANS) The impending demolition of Russia's biggest Vedic cultural centre in St Petersburg has triggered an angry reaction in Goa.

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has petitioned the Goa representative of the Russian consulate in Mumbai to convey its anger against the demolition.

"More than a matter of law, it is a matter of religious sentiment which the Russian government has to honour," HJS convenor Jayesh Thali said in his memorandum handed over to Vikram Varma, who represents the Russian consular authorities.

The Vedic cultural centre, which promotes ancient Indian culture and Sanskrit language located in President Vladimir Putin's hometown, follows a local court's directive.
